3 Tips to Even Better Decision Making

Food (360x640)3 Tips to Even Better Decision Making
Being a good decision maker can help you in business and life. It’s been said that highly confident people make decisions clearly and stick to them rather than changing their minds or being indecisive.

And even if decision making doesn’t come naturally to you, it is a skill which can be learned. Here are a few tips to help you:

#1 – Start small. Even making small everyday decisions will help you accomplish the bigger goal. Small decisions such as what food to eat at a restaurant are not to be underestimated. A good way to start is the next time you’re eating out, look at the menu and decide what you’d like to eat. Then put the menu down and don’t change your mind. Don’t ask your companions what they’re having and base your decision on that – make the decision on your own and then stick to it.

Small steps like this can be empowering and help you to tackle the bigger decisions to come in the future.

#2 – Approach decisions logically. Many of us tend to make emotion-based decisions rather than logical ones. In business this can spell disaster. A good way to help you approach decisions in a logical manner may be to write down a list of pros and cons.

Simply grab a sheet of paper and label one side pros and one side cons. Then list all the good and bad points of your choice. Logically think through your comments and then make your decision. This way you can leave emotions out of the equation and concentrate purely on the facts.

#3 – Cut yourself some slack. Making decisions is a skill which can be learned but even pros don’t always make the right choices. Realize that making decisions effectively takes confidence and is a great first step, but your decisions may not always be the right decisions. If you happen to make the wrong decision, give yourself a break and take comfort in the fact that you thought out your decision clearly and logically and made the best choice possible at the time.

Being a good decision maker takes time and practice. However, it’s a worthwhile skill to develop. Making decisions regularly may help build your confidence level and also help people know where they stand with you – two great entrepreneurial qualities. Increase Your Productivity! Take a Break

Are you working and working but just can’t seem to focus and get stuff done? You might be considering changing careers or even seeing a doctor, but the solution may be much more simple than that – just take a break. Taking short ten minute breaks throughout the day can help you refocus and reenergize so you’re more productive once you get back to work.

Scientists and psychologists have actually done many studies that show how effective breaks can be. In fact, many large businesses have now started adopting break times into the course of the regular day. Employees are actually paid to sit at their desk and read, research topics they enjoy on the Internet, and do other things that interest them. It’s been shown that allowing these breaks actually increases productivity and employee satisfaction enough to compensate for the lost time plus some.

To get the most good out of your breaks, try making your activities something that will help increase production when you return to work, rather than something that simply distracts you. Some great options include aerobic activity or relaxation exercises. They’ll clear your mind, while producing chemicals in your body that will boost concentration when you get back to work.

If physical exercise isn’t your thing, or you just don’t have the chance to do it at work, there are other things you can do to relax and clear your mind so you can get back to work. Meditation or other breathing exercises only take a few minutes, but can help you feel better mentally and physically. Not only does it help you focus, it can also lower your blood pressure and help reduce the physical signs of stress.

The biggest danger in taking breaks is not getting back to work when the break is done. A lot of people will try to skip breaks because they’re afraid they won’t get back to work and the work won’t get done. But when you skip breaks, you can significantly decrease productivity and actually end up getting less work done. The key is setting a time limit to your breaks and sticking to them. If you have trouble, try setting a timer when you take a break, or having someone back you up by making sure you get back to work. As Entrepreneurs we need to help and support one another. I encourage women to join Chicks Connect for added support and education around personal and professional growth and development.

If you’ve been pushing too hard and have reached burnout, a ten minute break just isn’t going to be enough. If you are finding yourself feeling sick, tired, and only ever in a negative mood, especially about work, you are probably burnt out. In this case, you not only need to incorporate short breaks into your day, you also need to alter how and when you work and may even need an extended vacation.

Breaks are an easy and effective way to increase your results and become even more successful with very little effort.

Boardman Marina & RV Park Boardman, Oregon

image

We decided to break up our drive from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to Bend, Oregon by stopping in Boardman, Oregon.

image

image

This RV park is beautiful and affordable with full hook ups. (Goodsam discount)There is a market very close by for food and movie rental but not much else in this town aside from a museum and a Boardman Agri-Business drive tour. Stop by the SAGE center to tour the museum (around $5 adults and students free) and to purchase some Tillamook Ice Cream. They will give you a map that explains all of the different bussinesses on the drive tour like; Boardman Chip Company where they grind logs into chips that are then barged down the Columbia to pulp mills and made into paper. There are 39 stops in all and quite educational.

There are huge Papayas and many authentic Mexican cooking supplies available.

Right after we pulled in we were all HOT so we blew up the air mattresses and jumped in the river. Harley took a swim as well. Across the river there is a dedicated swimming space along with volleyball nets, BBQ’S and a covered picnic area.

This is a great park for boating as well. We were only here for a quick stop but those staying longer could enjoy bike riding, fishing, boating, hiking and playing outdoor games. We didn’t see a family lodge or swimming pool but we didn’t look too hard. The bathroom and showers were clean. You might also enjoy the Boardman Park/Port river walk. They have the second largest port in Oregon. The Port of Morrow.
Enjoy your summer and be sure to share your travels with us!!

Have you ever felt that you just need to do something right now, even when other people offered to help you if you could just wait a minute?
Well that happened to me last Sunday night when I had the sudden urge to do our laundry. TJ said he would go with me in 30 minutes and I initially said ok then said, no I need to go now!

image

I left the RV park not knowing where I was going and pulled over upon seeing a woman standing next to her van at the entrance of Bonner County Fair Grounds which was where we were staying. She told me of the nearest Laundromat, which was just down the street and I went on my way.
I walked in the door and was greeted by a man, Josh, holding a baby. He asked, “Are you here to do some laundry tonight?” I, looking confused replied, “Yes.” He said, “Well, today is your lucky day. We are from the church and we are paying for your laundry. Just find one of us with the payment cards and we will cover the cost of all of your laundry.”
My mind was racing and I knew that I wanted to talk to the person in charge to find out more. I prepared all of my laundry in washers and Josh came back over and asked if I was set to go and he paid for all of my loads of laundry! What a blessing. I just kept thinking….. I am an excellent receiver. I will allow them to bless me with this gift and I will graciously accept the support.
3 years ago, when we first hit the road this opportunity would have brought me to tears. 3 years ago, finances were tight as we set off to fulfill a dream and a calling. I thought that the best thing that I could do to support the church was to write this blog and provide awareness. Here is the story and a link for you to contribute to Laundry Love.

This information was provided by Kathy who was the woman in charge that evening.

“Laundry Love was created by a woman down in California who ran into some people who were going to work in dirty clothes. She asked them why their clothes weren’t clean for work and they replied that they needed to pay rent and have money for food. There wasn’t any money left to pay for laundry. Her heart went out to these people and rather than be sad and do nothing, she took action and created Laundry Love. One of the members of the church in California moved up here to Sandpoint, ID and started the program here.”

They would love to expand this idea to other churches and continue to provide for their own community by supporting them 1 time per month, the first Sunday of the month from 5pm-7pm. Please consider donating to this wonderful cause.

I spoke with some of the people who were doing their laundry and this is what they had to say,

“There is a woman who has a very sick son with bowel issues and they would have to put the laundry on the porch and wash it outside. They lived off the grid and had 5-6 children. She found out about Laundry Love and came in with tears streaming down her face. She was so thankful for our support.”

Another woman that I met, Ann, shows up each month with bedding that she has collected from garage sales and thrift stores. She washes it up, folds it and donates what she doesn’t need to the homeless or new moms who need the children’s blankets.  She called it People just helping People.

A member of the church, Jenna, told me that this church also provides free dinners for people on Monday nights. She loves her church!

The church is able to collect around $400 per month for Laundry Love by taking collections form the congregation! My hope is that some of you will send a few dollars their way and brighten their day! Like I said, this service would have brought me to tears 3 years ago and perhaps you know what I mean or can imagine what it might be like to need some Laundry Love!
